With the extensive public transportation system of Milan, It is possible to travel almost everywhere with the local metro, tram and bus. From the international airport of Milan, there are connections via trains, busses and taxis that brings one into the inner city comfortably and easily.
The international airport “Malpensa International airport” of Milan connects many major cities such as Toronto, London, Delhi and Moscow. There is a total of three airports in Milan, each with reliable shuttle services that bring people to and away from the airport quickly.
Transport to and from the airport: within Milan
The “Malpensa International airport” is located outside of the main city of Milan, in the province of Varese, 50 kilometers from the inner city. With the airport shuttle services, one can get from the airport to the main train station of Milan in about 40 minutes.
The Malpensa Express Train brings one to downtown Milan in about 50 minutes. With 146 trips a day and at a frequency of 30 minutes, it is a reliable way to travel to and from the airport.
Contrary to most cities in Europe, Taxis rarely stop when hailed in the street. One may however find a taxi easily at the taxi stand or by calling to book one in advance. The inner city of Milan is about an hour’s drive away from the airport.
Bus tickets can be purchased at a metro station or a tabacchi (a tobacco shop) and must be stamped upon boarding the bus. A stamped ticket allows for a ride up to 90 minutes with unlimited transfers on trams and buses and includes one metro ride. There is also an ATM app where single-ride tickets and day passes can be bought online using a credit card.
The metro is often the fastest way to get around town. Two of the four lines that run through the city stop at the Duomo and allow for easy connections to Milan Central Station. One may purchase a ticket from the machines at the metro station, which offer services in multiple languages. One ride, including transfers, costs 1.50 euros, and a ticket is needed to enter and exit the metro. Upon validation of the ticket, one may ride up to 90 minutes on trams and buses.
Many tramlines connect outer neighbourhoods to the historic centre. Just as with bus tickets, tram tickets can be bought at a metro station or a tabacchi (tobacco shop) and tickets have to be stamped upon boarding the tram. The NH Milano Congress Centre hotel, formerly known as NH Milanofiori, was entirely refurbished in 2015 and gives you easy access to the shops, restaurants. The nightlife of Milan’s bustling Navigli area is only 4 metro stops away. Located in Assago, just outside the city, it includes one of the largest conference centers in Milan, and it’s also just a short walk from the Milan Assago Forum with its international concerts and shows. The city center is only 15 minutes away by metro.

All EU / EEA nationals will only need to present an identification document to enter Italy, due to the common travel area of the Schengen Zone.
Non-EU/EEA traveler wishing to visit Italy will need to present the following at the Italian port of entry. Visitors from certain countries may be allowed entry into the Schengen Area for up to 90 days.
