Oliver Donoso Mantke, PhD

Oliver Donoso Mantke, PhD, is a Scientific Consultant from Berlin, Germany, working for QCMD (Quality Control for Molecular Diagnostics) and their External Quality Assessment (EQA) programmes specialized on infectious diseases.
In 2000, after his studies in Biology and Biotechnology at the Freie Universität Berlin and at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, he started to work for 12 years at the Robert Koch Institute (the German central scientific institution in the field of biomedicine). During this time, he received his PhD in Virology at the Freie Universität Berlin, working on cardiotropic viruses, and later he made his Habilitation (post-doctoral lecturing qualification) on arboviral encephalitis at the University of South Bohemia in Budweis.
Oliver Donoso Mantke was scientific co-coordinator of the European Network for Diagnostics of Imported Viral Diseases (ENIVD), including virus diagnostic and research of special pathogens. He was deputy head of the German Consultant Laboratory for Tick-borne encephalitis as well as temporary scientific expert for infectious diseases of the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) and founding member/supervisor of the European Public Health Microbiology Training Programme (EUPHEM).
Between 2013 and 2016, he worked for INSTAND e.V. as scientific EQA adviser in virology supporting the development of EQA schemes for diagnostics of infectious diseases and blood safety. This was in close collaboration with national scientific societies (e.g., GfV, DVV), federal institutes (e.g., RKI, PEI), international organisations (e.g., WHO), and several national or international diagnostic testing/ microbiology reference laboratories.
Dr. Donoso Mantke is lecturer at the Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin and mentor for the Dahlem Research School Mentoring Programme (DREAM) at the Freie Universität Berlin.
